DVD Interview with Grandpa Lynn

All of the kids and some of the cousins received a DVD of the interview I did with Grandpa Lynn back in 2003. I had not actually watched the interview since it was recorded until Monday. They are on 30 min VHS-c Cassettes. I created a quick menu, digitalized them, and placed it on the DVD as is. I did not have time to test them or edit them. I am planning on coming out with an edited dvd with nicer menus, photos, the extra audio of harmonica playing, and more in the future.

Please let me know if your DVD did not play.

Grandpa Lynn

My Grandpa Lynn passed today at the age of 91 years old. My Grandma Lynn passed in December of 2002 at 81. Grandpa had been in nursing care for the past year or so. We knew this was coming soon. Guilford was the name everyone knew him by. He was a strong man of God and is now in his hands. We will miss you Grandpa.

It was snowing fairly hard this morning taking David to pre-school. We pass a house that has horses everyday. Today I showed him how the horses had snow on their backs. He then said, "Daddy, they need some hot chocolate! I will give them some." It is nice that he has concern for comfort even for the horses.

On my way to my Sunday magic show, I saw a looming cloud of smoke ahead of me. I was afraid that something was on fire on the interstate. When I got to the bend I could see it was a building or home off the road a ways. Later to find out it was an oil company.

I don't know about y'all but I'm tired of looking at the 24 hour magic poster. So I will guest blog for my husband. A lot has happened in his life over the last month. He has gotten a new office. He has been working real hard. He loves his wife and has bought her a new diamond anniversary band... just because. He has won the lottery and has spent the last few weeks basking in the sun on the island of Fiji. He has...um.. OK so maybe not THAT much has happened. But I promised him that if he did not update his blog, I WOULD! I will post a couple pictures from awhile back of the new airport. He did magic for the construction workers party about 6 weeks ago and got a sneak peek of the new digs. In honor of the grand opening last week, I will leave you with a few pics.

Some of you know of my latest magical stunt. I am doing 72 magic shows in 24 hours live outside to raise money for breast cancer research. Here is the press release.

72 Magic Shows in 24 Hours

To Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness and Research

On October 28^th, Daniel Lusk will have a stage outside of Steak and Shake on US 36 in Avon Indiana and will attempt to do 72 magic shows in 24 hours, all to benefit the fight against Breast Cancer. It will begin at 10am on October 28^th and will finish at 10am October 29^th.

October 28^th falls in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and International Magic Week. Magician Daniel Lusk will use the art of magic to raise money and awareness for this worthy cause.

Daniel Lusk is a comedy magician who has performed for the NBA, WNBA, many corporations, churches, private parties, and daycares all across the Midwest.

Where did the idea come from? "I wanted to do something different", states Lusk. "Well, I see many feats on TV that are based on endurance. Some even done by magicians," Lusk said. "I started wondering if it was possible to combine both endurance and magic. That's where the 72 shows in 24 hours were born."

The idea is to do three 10 minute magic shows every hour, for 24 hours straight. The schedule is planned as 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, etc. All shows will be held on a stage outside of Steak and Shake in Avon Indiana. Besides the simple fact of staying awake for 24 hours, Lusk says staying alert may be the most difficult factor. "Magic takes a great deal of concentration ", he said. "If you don't focus and concentrate on what you are doing, the trick will fail. Throughout the night I can imagine it getting more and more difficult to stay on top of things."

Why would someone put themselves through this? The answer is simple, to raise money and awareness for one of the most deadly diseases facing women today. "A woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. That's staggering. If I could wave a wand and make a cure, I would. However, it doesn't work that way. The least I can do is raise money to fund those that are on their way to making that cure appear by doing what I do best," Lusk stated. Not only will this raise awareness for Breast Cancer but all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Donations will be collected on site during the 24 hours, or you can log onto Lusk's website and donate. Steak and Shake will be giving 20% of its proceeds to the American Cancer Society from customers that come to the free shows.

"I can't imagine anything more magical than being able to look into my daughter's eyes and know that this danger has vanished from her future, "Lusk said. "It's a small step, but if we all take small steps, it would be a giant leap getting us that much closer to a cure."

I have been on a couple radio shows already and have a couple TV appearances coming up during the event. One of the interviews was on the Smiley Morning Show here in Indianapolis. They have a recording of the spot on their website. DISCLAIMER: Yes I did mess up one trick...the first one!!! It was my fault...I just got ahead of myself. The second trick was not done the way he said it was...and I got him on the third.

Well....Target has had their Christmas stuff up for three weeks and Lowes was in full Christmas swing tonight. Madelyn pointed at an inflatable helicopter with a Santa Clause in it and said, "Look at the Jesus Helicopter!"........WHAT......uhh no "Madelyn thats Santa Clause"......we quickly pointed out the inflatable manger scene. Ohhh and thats another thing. Jesus has gone inflatable. Now instead of an inflatable snowman blowing over in the winter wind....Baby Jesus might just blow by your window.

ANYWAY...... (one of these days I will dedicate a post to my hatred for inflatables)

We saw some glasses you can put on to look at Christmas lights with. I just thought they were the same type you get at 4th of July fireworks. NO....THESE THINGS ARE COOL. They actually produce crisp images or shapes around the lights. My camera phone did not pick it up as clear as you see it personally but you get the idea.

I cannot stand this. The person that buys houses around here has to throw LITTER in my driveway every month or so.
This form of advertising consist of 2 rocks, a ziplock bag, and their flyer. I get upset with this because not only do I have to clean up after them at my house but if the neighbors do not get theirs in time, it gets ran over, flyer gets loose, and in my yard again. It really turns me off to any company that does this. Have you ever received one of these "goodie bags"?

David loves his train table. He really loves to get a new track EVERY DAY! Guess who has to build it. He is getting better at making tracks himself but they do not seem to work right. I have come up with some fairly cool designs (or at least believe so). The problem is that they only last for a day or so.

I had two shows in Florence KY yesterday. They were both at daycares. One at 10:30am and the other at 3pm. So in the between time I went to Panara Bread and ate, went and found a geocache with out a GPS, and stopped by to see the famous Florence Y'all Water Tower which was close to everything else. There is an interesting story about the water tower from Wikipedia. WIKIPEDIA IS THE BEST. It is best explained by Michael Scott of Dunder Mifflin

The Florence Y'all Water Tower is a water tower that stands between the Florence Mall and I-75 in Florence, Kentucky.

History

The tower holds approximately one million gallons of water, and was constructed in the early 1970s by the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Co. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The plain water tower gathered little, if any attention. In 1974, the Virginia Erection Co. was contracted to paint the words "Florence Mall" to advertise the forthcoming Mall style shopping center - something new to the region. Mayor CM "Hop" Ewing was informed in July of 1974 by the Bureau of Highways that the signage was in violation of the law, as there was a restriction on how tall a sign promoting a business could be.

Many solutions were suggested, including everything from the obvious repainting of the tower, to covering the structure with a large tarpaulin. No inexpensive options seemed available.

During a brainstorming session with other civil staff, Ewing devised the idea of removing the vertical lines at the sides of the M in MALL to make it a Y; becoming Y'ALL. Ewing himself admitted at the time that it was a "corny" solution, but cost effective. The city paid $472 to the W.T. Marx Company of Cincinnati, Ohio to make the changes; whereas a complete repaint would have been nearly three times as much. With the completion of the modified paint job, the landmark was born.

The tower was recognized shortly after the change, in a national Reader's Digest publication. The tower is an instantly recognizable landmark, even inspiring the naming of the annual Florence festival to the "Florence Y'all" fest.

For the last three years I have been the Awana Games Leader for our church. With magic shows now showing up at all times it has been hard to lead the games. With that said, I bowed out of games and will help with Puggles next year. Thank you to my great team and friends. Josh Washburn (left) and Shane Thrasher (right). You guys are the best. Shane filled in a lot for me in the past year. Shane will be moving on from games as well. I am not sure of Josh's plans.

I had a very odd experience today. A miraculous event!!

I went to place my contacts in my eyes today. I figured it was time for a new pair. Each comes in their own package. I opened up one and placed it in the right eye. I did the same for the left. I then realized I had a very hard time seeing out of the right eye. "Hmmm...bad contact", I thought. I took it out and cleaned it off. Placed it back in the eye. No good. "Cheep Wal-Mart brand", I murmured under my breath. Did this same routine a few more times. I then took the right one out and placed it back in the package with solution and tried putting one of my old ones in since I had no other new contacts. SAME RESULTS. Very very blurry. "Oh no somethings wrong with my actual eye!", I thought to myself as panic starts to sit in. I then took the old one out set it aside and took the one I KNEW I could see clearly from in the left eye and place it in the right eye. SAME RESULTS.

"Great I have developed a eye problem over the course of the night sleeping". I took the contact back out and placed it in the left eye again and did not place any contact in the right eye. Getting ready to head downstairs to have Becky look at my eye I notice something very strange. 20/20 VISION! "Ok! What is going on here" I rubbed my eye and no contact. I looked and both old contacts were in the case and the "bad" new contact in the packaging with solution. One good one in my left eye....that makes 4 contacts. WHY CAN I SEE PERFECT! Ahhh it was not an eye problem I developed overnight it was SUPER EYE REGENERATION! Now I am super confused.

I head downstairs with a bewildered look on my face. "Becky I am wearing only one contact and have perfect vision. Do YOU see a contact in my right eye." Bending close to her with a crazy look already in my eye from the event that just unfolded I hear, "Uhh Yea". Sure enough I pick out a contact from my right eye. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!

I walk upstairs more confused than before. "OK" standing in front of the sink "One...two old contacts, One new contact in the packaging, One new in the left eye, and one renegade contact in the right". 5 contacts! I am not sure how I did not feel it in there before but here is what I have concluded.

One of the new packages actually contained 2 contacts stuck together. An error at the factory. One poor sap probably got an empty case and is still on their bathroom floor looking for the contact they "dropped". It obviously was blurry with two contact and when I took it out I only got a hold of one of them. Craziness then perspired.

What a long story to tell you I got a FREE CONTACT but a small mental breakdown.
